The Brief

At DDM School the central courtyard functions as the heart of campus life—a space of gathering, movement, and shared moments for hundreds of students each day. ISTAKA transformed this large pedestrian zone into a structured yet playful ground plane using modular pavers that could withstand high footfall while maintaining visual identity. The result is a courtyard that organizes movement, encourages interaction, and becomes an integral part of the school’s daily rhythm.

Design Approach

The design introduces a strong geometric language through a zigzag composition using Brikweave pavers at the core, creating visual movement across the courtyard. Quadra pavers define the outer edges, absorbing irregularities caused by existing trees while maintaining a clean modular system. Stonske elements were extended around tree bases to act as minimalist guards, integrating landscape elements seamlessly with the paving grid. The final composition balances structure and spontaneity—allowing the courtyard to feel energetic without visual clutter.

Products & Applications

Brikweave – Central courtyard areas with uniform sizing for visual consistency. Stonske – Bordering elements and tree guards for clean edge definition. Quadra – Edge unification, absorbing layout irregularities gracefully.
